Aspect Ratio

Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between an image's width and height, expressed as a ratio like 3:2 or 16:9.

Aspect ratio is the ratio of width to height in an image. Common photographic ratios include 3:2 (standard DSLR), 4:3 (older cameras and phones), 1:1 (square / Instagram), and 16:9 (video). Fine-art and print ratios often include 4:5, 5:7, and the golden ratio (1:1.618).

Aspect ratio matters for wall art because prints are typically sold in standard sizes (8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 18x24, 24x36). If your source image is 16:9 and you order a 16x20 print, you'll either crop the image or end up with white bars. Planning the ratio up front avoids surprises.

For AI-generated work, we generate at the exact aspect ratio of the final print size, so there's never a cropping decision at the end of the process.
