Gallery Frame
A gallery frame is a minimal, clean-lined frame style — typically thin profile, neutral color — designed to disappear and let the artwork speak.
"Gallery frame" is a loose term for the minimal, professional framing style used in contemporary art galleries: a thin profile (usually 1/2" to 3/4"), a squared-off face (no ornamentation), and a neutral finish (matte black, matte white, or natural wood).
The point of a gallery frame is to be invisible. It provides structure and protection without competing with the artwork. This style has become the default for contemporary prints, photography, and AI-generated work.
Gallery frames pair well with minimal or no mat, letting the artwork extend close to the frame's inner edge. They work in nearly any interior style and are essentially impossible to get wrong.
